Obedience Training Dogs Technique
Do perfect dogs exist? This is the most common question when we talk about obedience training dogs. Raising the perfect dog is always the goal but it’s not always that easy. Wanting a perfect dog is most, if not all, dog owners want.
I guess the “perfect dog” question is akin to asking “Is there a perfect person?” And you would readily say…NO!
But there are a lot of great and fabulous people in the world…and by the same token, there are a lot of really great and amazing dogs as well.
So what is the best way to turn your puppy into the “almost perfect dog”?
Before you answer this, ask yourself first:
Do you really want a perfect dog? What do you want your dream dog to be or do?
Is your dream dog someone who is basically a performing monkey that you can wheel out for visitors so they can say “Wow he’s cool…, how clever is he…he is so obedient…” and so on and so forth.
The ironic thing in many of these instances is that after the dog has performed the tricks, the owner will then warn the visitors: “Now…make sure you don’t go near his head when you pat him…, or keep the children away from his toys…, or don’t go near him when he’s eating..!”
Sounds crazy, right?
Some dog owners spend so many resources and time focusing on teaching their dogs the commands but never even thought of teaching them the really important stuff.
And when they realize the mistake, it’s often too late.
Do you want to know the most common reason for this?…
It’s due to the fact that many dog trainers are doing what everyone else is doing: using the training method using the common commands “sit”, “stay”, “down”.
It’s like a bandwagon, people doing the same thing and nobody is asking the WHY.
Reflect on this… have you heard dogs being put to sleep (i.e. euthanized) for failing to sit or stay down?
Or because they didn’t follow a “stay” command? We don’t think so.
And yet that’s what is commonly taught in puppy school, right?
I guess we understand the beauty of the simplicity of these commands as these are the basic tricks that a dog can learn but these are not really that important in the grand scheme of things.
But aggression? For this you will need a good program of obedience training dogs!
Do you know that more dogs are put down for aggression, growling, barking, biting and challenging than any other reason?
Aggression to owners, neighbors, children, strangers – it’s all bad news for both dog and dog owners alike!
Nothing is more scary and dangerous than out-of-control dogs that are pulling hard on the leash. Not to mention the danger they bring to themselves when they are around other dogs and cars.
Yet not a lot of dog trainers tell you how to prevent all of this from happening. Why? Because not a lot of them understand it themselves!
Most people’s real idea of a perfect dog, in no particular order, will include all of the following 5 important behaviors:
- Calm around all other animals including dogs
- Friendly to all people including children
- Relaxed and obedient around the home
- Amazing at coming when called at the park
- A real angel when walking on the leash in public Hhmmm… We can hear you thinking….You’ve got a point! Let me guess your next question…
